Independent Zynga Poker Platform leading to Real Money?

by Jeremy Olson on March 2, 2012

Due to its business partnership with the world’s leading social networking site, Facebook, Zynga Poker has millions of players worldwide. And it looks like Zynga is trying to reach people outside of Facebook since they’ve recently launched an independent platform.

Zynga CEO Mark Pincus discussed the company’s decision to launch an independent gaming platform by writing, “It’s our hope that our Platform partners, and eventually anyone in the industry, can extend the reach of their games and connect to even more players on Zynga.com.”

The reason why this is big news to the online poker world is because it frees them up to seek out real money poker games. Currently, Zynga Poker is one of the biggest entities in the online poker world with over 30 million members. However, they only offer play money poker games, which restricts their earning potential with the game. However, if they were to offer real money play, it’s very likely that Zynga Poker would experience a huge surge in profits.

Pincus discussed this aspect with the following, “We’re definitely talking to all of the players that you would suspect. We have incredible respect and admiration for brands and groups like the Wynn. I would expect that you’ll see a lot of these players kind of figure out their go-to-market partnerships for sure before the end of this year.”

Of course, the big hurdle to Zynga entering the online poker game is if/when the United States decides to regulate internet poker. The game is no longer classified under the Wire Act, which technically makes online poker legal. However, there are still various restrictions on banks accepting transactions related to online gaming.
