WPT history to take place this week?

by Poker Team

It could happen at the World Poker Tour event taking place in Canada this week. With only 27 players remaining in the North American Poker Championship the current chip leader is none other than Vivek Rajkumar, the winner of the last WPT event. After taking down the victory at The Borgota Poker Open, Vivek was profiled in many publications because of his young age and his decision to play poker full time moving forward.

Clearly that was a good idea for Vivek, who now stands on the cusp of being the first player to ever win back-to-back WPT titles. With a chip count of 1,080,000 he’s the only player to eclipse the million chip mark so far. However, he has a gauntlet of poker professionals nipping at his heels. Matt Matros, Kathy Libert, Gavin Smith, and Eric Siedel are all within striking distance and of course, very capable of winning the event as well.

Action resumes tomorrow at the Fallsview Casino in Niagra where the players will play down to 6 for the televised final table. If Vivek makes the final table this could well be one of the most media followed poker events of the year trailing only the World Series of Poker. We’ll report on the results tomorrow so stay tuned.
