No PCA Title Defense for Viktor Blom

by Jeremy

Up until last year, Viktor “Isildur1″ Blom had primarily been an online poker cash games specialist. However, the world-famous high stakes player stepped onto the tournament circuit more as a sponsored PokerStars pro. And the culmination of this tournament play was a 2012 PokerStars Caribbean Adventure Super High Roller title. Blom collected $1,254,400 for winning this event and proved that he’s more than just a cash game player.

Strangely enough, Isildur1 won’t be making a trip to the Bahamas to defend his Super High Roller crown this year. He’s not among the 32 listed entrants, and a rep from his new sponsor - Full Tilt Poker - said that Blom will be “laying low and playing online” until the NBC National Heads-up Championship. Those who will be looking to claim the $100,000 Super High Roller title in 2013 include Phil Hellmuth, Daniel Negreanu, Jonathan Duhamel, Eugene Katchalov, Jason Mercier, Scott Seiver, and Ike Haxton.

Going back to Blom, one suspected reason why he won’t be traveling to the PCA is because of his massive online success. Blom’s heater has seen him earn over $2.6 million since last December with most of this coming in 2013. In fact, the Swede won $715k last night to bring his winnings this year to $2 million.

Whats amazing is that we reported how he was one of the newly-launched FTP’s biggest losers back in November. Now he’s dominating and is easily Full Tilt’s biggest winner since the November 6th relaunch. And perhaps the most impressive thing in all of this is how Blom has made lots of money in disciplines he was previously unfamiliar with like Fixed-Limit Omaha Hi/Lo and 2-7 Triple Draw. Considering how he’s just 22 years old, it will be very interesting to see how Isildur1′s career turns out as he gets older.
