Tony G bets $20k on Himself in WSOPE

by Jeremy

Poker pro Tony G has always been known for his crazy antics, so it should be no surprise that he’s causing a stir in the poker community once again. His latest ploy involves betting $20,000 on himself to cash in the 2011 WSOPE Main Event. Considering the fact that sportsbooks are giving 5/1 odds on this bet, Tony stands to make $100,000 if he can make the money.

The Party Poker pro wrote about his bet in a recent blog posted entitled “Bring on the Americans!” He posted the following:

First of all, however, I am going to win the WSOPE Main Event. First ten minutes, STRAIGHT FLUSH – then massive double up. I am on a roll. I even bet $20,000 at 5/1 that I will make the money in the Main Event – 55th place guarantees me $100k.

Since many people harbor a deep resentment for Tony G and his exploits, most would say that this is a bad bet. However, it will certainly motivate the pro to play his best in the 2011 WSOPE Main Event.

And he’d no doubt better be at the top of his game for the Caesar’s Cup event, where Team America will face off against Team Europe. After all, the Lithuanian talked quite a bit of trash on his blog about the Caesar’s Cup as he wrote:

The Americans are drawing their pensions, half of their first choices couldn’t even leave their retirement homes to travel. Jason Mercier? Heard he is lucky, I prefer Isabelle Mercier? Daniel Negreanu – nippy chihuahua , he’ll whine more about being homesick when I have finished with him.

Johnny Chan, I prefer Jackie Chan – rush hour – time to get on your bike Johnny. Ben Lamb…to the slaughter! They are all lambs and Ben will be silenced. Phil, if anyone pulls out bring Andrew Robl in – bring in the most shameful example of a modern internet player. YOU HAVE TO HE DOES YOUR COUNTRY PROUD!
