Tony G to battle Isildur1 in PokerStars SuperStar Showdown

by Poker Team

Losing $41,700 to Isaac “philivey2694” Haxton in the first ever PokerStars SuperStar Showdown hasn’t left Isildur1 bitter. In fact, Isildur1 already has another opponent lined up since the unknown Swedish high stakes player will face Tony G in the second installment of SuperStar Showdown.

PokerStars made an official announcement about the match through this press release:

On January 2nd at 16:00 ET, the King of Swing will meet The G heads up over four tables. The game will be half no-limit hold’em and half pot-limit hold’em Omaha at $50/$100 stakes. Both players have escrowed $150,000 for the match.

What’s interesting about Tong G being Isildur’s next opponent is that the two have a bitter past. In a 2009 blog post, Tony G claimed that Isildur1 was young Swedish high stakes player Viktor Blom (this rumor has never been confirmed). Earlier this year, Isildur1 asked Tony G to help him get into the televised Party Poker Big Game IV. This was supposed to be the unveiling of Isildur1’s identity, but the Swede backed out at the last minute. This prompted another blog post from Tony G as he wrote:

To say I am disappointed is an understatement….It has left a bad taste in my mouth. What you have to understand is that he reached out to me first and asked and then agreed to play. As far as I am concerned I am washing my hands with him and moving on. On your bike!

While the first SuperStar Showdown was interesting because it was a brand new event, this Challenge could be even more exciting because of the bad blood between Tony G and Isildur1. Judging from their history, it appears clear that Tony will be looking to exact some revenge on Isidlur1 for the Big Game IV no-show.

With drama, excitement and challenges that actually finish, the PokerStars SuperStar Showdown already seems to be overtaking Tom Dwan’s Million Dollar Challenge at Full Tilt Poker. In fact, it was just announced that Dwan and Dan “jungleman12” Cates might be taking another extended break from the second Million Dollar Challenge. Oh well….at least we have the SuperStar Showdown to keep up entertained.
