Tom Dwan ridicules DOJ in PokerStars/Full Tilt Deal

by Jeremy

Following the completion of the PokerStars/Full Tilt Poker deal, we’ve heard quite a few comments from pros on the matter. And some of the most interesting comments have come from former Full Tilt posterboy Tom Dwan, who ridiculed the US Department of Justice’s role in finishing the deal. The high stakes poker pro wrote the following comments:

Lol at ppl giving the doj the credit for today. I’ll do a long interview or blog detailing who to rly thank and some random stuff

Can the a**hole who put the “ponzi scheme” wording in doj’s release be fired now please?

As you can see from his statements, it looks like Dwan strongly believes that former Full Tilt Poker management should be commended for their role in completing the deal. Apparently, he’s been working on a blog post on the matter too, which has yet to be finished.

In any case, Dwan’s statements are controversial to say the least because FTP’s management is widely hated for mismanaging the site. Ray Bitar, Howard Lederer and Chris Ferguson have specifically been implicated for their roles in over-spending player deposits and leaving the site’s funds dry.

It’s highly unlikely that anybody will ever forgive this trio, and grudges may be carried against sponsored pros like Dwan too. Todd Brunson is one of these people since he tweeted this message about those formerly involved with Full Tilt:

now ppl get $ back should the FTP crew b forgiven?Would u forgive the guy that raped ur mom cause someone else gave her a bath?

The tweet has since been deleted, but Brunson’s sentiments largely reflect what many players will always think of former FTP owners. But maybe the hate will die down a little bit seeing as how players are gong to get their money back.
