Tide Turns in the Durrrr Challenge

by Poker Team

Over the past week, Patrik Antonius and Tom Dwan (Durrrr) have played about 2,000 more hands in their famed challenge (that puts them near the halfway mark having played over 22,000 out of their allotted 50,000 hands). What has been significant on the last few sessions is that Antonius has dug himself out of a $700K + hole and retaken the lead by about $76K.

As has been the case throughout the challenge, there have been a number of big pots, and during the last few days Antonius has taken down most of them. Dwan won the two largest pots but Antonius took down the next eight. Out of the 23 pots where each player put in a full buy in ($40,000) or more 16 went to Antonius.

Dwan ran into some tough luck throughout the week. Some of the highlights (or lowlights as Durrrr would perceive them) included a hand where Dwan lost $97K when his flopped bottom set got crushed by Antonius’ flopped top set. Another hand of note occurred when Antonius took down $160K when his top set held up vs Dwan’s nut straight and straight flush draw. This time, Patrik got lucky and hit his full house on the river

As you can see, some very interesting developments in the challenge, and it will be interesting to see where it goes from here on out. At the halfway point, it is still anybody’s game.
