Russia Bans Casinos and Slot Machine Establishments

by Poker Team

Russia has finally banned casino and slot machine establishments. The idea was first mooted back in 2006, when Putin expressed his dismay at youngsters and pensioners squandering what little money they had on gambling. The move comes as somewhat of a surprise now though, with up to 400,000 redundancies only set to graven the economic crisis. Not all is doom and gloom though for the gambling industry, with the Kremlin permitting casinos in four, more remote regions of Russia, including Siberia, Kaliningrad and near the Chinese / North Korean border. Since poker was classified a ‘skill’ game in 2007, private card rooms are still legal.
