Rafael Nadal possibly making Live Poker Debut at EPT Prague Festival

One of the most exciting poker stories from last year involved tennis star Rafael Nadal signing with PokerStars. The eight-time French Open champion has since represented Stars in online tournaments and various promotions. However, there’s one thing that he’s yet to do: play in a live tournament.

This might change though in the near future because Nadal could make his debut at the EPT Prague festival. This news comes from the PokerStars blog, and there’s no definitive answer on if Rafa will attend for sure.

It’s worth mentioning that EPT Prague will run from December 8th-18th, which would work out perfectly for Nadal because this is the tennis offseason. He’s currently training for the season’s last Major of the year in the US Open.

Unfortunately, the PokerStars blog didn’t specify whether they’re expecting him to compete in the €5,300 buy-in EPT Prague Main Event, or just one of the side tournaments. If Nadal plays in the Main Event, he’ll no doubt be competing for a massive prize pool. Last year’s EPT Prague ME offered a €4,190,400 ($5,477,217) prize pool - €835,000 ($1,091,418) of which went to Sweden’s Ramzi Jelassi for winning.

Of course, we’re not expecting Nadal to take home a $1 million prize if he does play the Main Event. But it’d be really cool to see him make a run at cashing at least.

And if he doesn’t cash, the Spaniard can take comfort in the $56 million that he’s earned on the tennis circuit along with his 12 Grand Slam titles. Nadal is best known for his dominance on clay courts, which has propelled him to a record eight victories at the French Open.
