PokerStars “Tour”ing Globally in 2011

by Omar

While other online poker sites set out to increase their market share in 2011, PokerStars appears to be hell-bent on continuing their world domination.  Over the weekend, the world’s largest online poker site made public their full slate of poker tours and by the time 2012 rolls around, they will have run over 12 of them, all over the world.  It’s big news indeed as the site is expanding its live tournament reach away from such well-known stops as the United States and United Kingdom to include some rather obscure locales.

As part of an expanded North American Poker Tour (NAPT) slate, PokerStars will be holding events at the Bicycle Casino in Los Angeles and Connecticut’s Mohegan Sun.  The LA-event will run from March 5th through the 13th while the Mohegan tournament will take place April 8th through the 13th with each having its own main event and Bounty style shootout, which proved to be quite popular at the just concluded PokerStars Caribbean Adventure (PCA), which had a $5,000 buy-in, and attracted 216 players.

In addition, PokerStars will be bringing back the popular Latin American Poker Tour which is entering its 4th season.  This series will begin play on February 8th to the 16th in Sao Paolo, Brazil.  Many think this opening event could turn out to be the largest poker tournament ever held in South America.  New to the LAPT slate will be a stop in Colombia, the city of which has never hosted an international poker tournament to be featured on television.

PokerStars is excited to announce that this year, they will be treated to more television coverage of their live events than ever before. Both of the new NAPT events will be covered by ESPN and by the UK’s channel 4.  It is believed that certain outlets in Latin America will air these as well.

PokerStars will also be hosting all of the following poker tours as well:

Asia Pacific Poker Tour (APPT)
Australia New Zealand Poker Tour (ANZPT)
Italian Poker Tour
Eureka Poker Tour

These are the only confirmed tours as of today, January 18th. We can be sure that as the months pass, PokerStars will have some more tricks up their sleeve and will expand even more.
