PokerStars Million Dollar Challenge TV Show to Air

by Poker Team

So far in its young television career, Full Tilt Poker’s Face the Ace, airing on Saturday nights on NBC has been met with very low rating. However, this is not deterring PokerStars from launching their own show this fall as it was announced that the FOX broadcasting network will be airing the PokerStars Million Dollar Challenge.

PokerStars Million Dollar Challenge TV Air Dates

The show’s first air date is scheduled for October 11th and will give players the chance to win up to $1 million. The contestants will be online PokerStars qualifiers and they will be taking on celebrities and Team PokerStars pros in a series of heads up matches which will culminate in a final on December 27.

Currently, PokerStars has already begun holding online qualifiers to take part in the show. Every night, at 8PM and 11PM, PokerStars is hosting freeroll tournaments from now through November 25th where the top 10 finishers in each will be allowed to submit 2-minute videos as an audition to be placed on the actual show.

If chosen, participants would appear on the show against 3 separate opponents in a series of best of 3 matchups. Those who make it through 3 rounds would then take on Daniel Negreanu, who up until that point would be mentoring the players, for a seat in the final.

Filming for the show will commence on September 30th with the series premiere on October 11th. Other scheduled episodes will air on:

October 18th
November 22nd
December 13th
December 27th
Filming begins Sept. 30.

All the episodes will air at 4 p.m. ET. Expectations in this time slot are much lower than those of the primetime Face the Ace. Let’s see if Poker game shows can form into a viable genre.
