PokerStars Launches Ladies Only Poker League

by Omar

During the 2010 World Series of Poker Ladies’ Only Event, a number of male poker players crashed the party, and in the process, ruffled more than a few feathers by taking part in the event. Some of the more offensive players decided to dress in drag to the event. Some of the players, including top online tournament grinder Shaun Deeb, said that they did so as a result of losing a prop bet and that they did not mean to offend anyone. Though none of the male players went very far in the event, thankfully, it did raise some legitimate questions regarding whether gender specific events have any part in the poker world, PokerStars has seemingly thumbed its nose at that assertion with the announcement that they are launching their own ladies-only online poker league.

Women’s Poker League at PokerStars

Dubbed the Women’s Poker League, this new series is open only to females and is looking to allow women to compete with other women from all over the world for exclusive prizes and exciting giveaways. Events are already underway and will continue through the end of 2010. They will have their own tournament leaderboards and the top point earners at the end of each month and the end of the year will earn cash prizes and something called the PokerStars Ladies Luxury Event packages. It seems the latter is some type of exclusive ladies-only live tournament whose details have not yet been revealed.

Women’s Poker League Tournaments

The tournaments are being run every day at 1:10 p.m. ET and 8:10 p.m. ET and all those who cash will earn Leaderboard points. In addition, each Sunday, PokerStars will be holding Women’s Special tournaments as well.
