PokerStars Hosts World’s Largest Poker Tournament

by AintLuck.com Poker Team

PokerStars, the world’s largest and most popular online poker site is setting out to break a world record. In just two weeks, on Sunday, December 28th at 5:30PM, PokerStars is looking to hold the world’s largest poker tournament. The event, featured a guaranteed $500,000 prize pool is expecting to allow up to 35,000 players to pay just $11 to compete in this historic event.

Players are already reserving their spot in the event as 2,254 players have entered as of press time and there is a steady stream of new entrants. The tournament will feature a slightly modified structure as tables will be 10-handed and levels will escalate every 10 minutes, making it quicker than a regular PokerStars tournament but allowing for more play than a typical turbo tournament.

Should the maximum number of players enter, PokerStars will be part of the verification process as is standard for all new world records. The process takes about six weeks to complete and the investigation takes place at Guinness’ office in London. It is believed that PokerStars got the idea of the event from a similar tournament they hosted in August 2008, in which there were 20,000 entrants. This time, they are attempting to make history. Interested players should sign up in the tournament lobby as soon as possible as this event is expected to sell out prior to tournament day.
