PokerStars Chile Event Canceled

by Poker Team

There have been no benefit concerts, no outpouring of aid, no celebrities rushing to the forefront alerting the world to their precarious situation. It’s almost hard to believe that the earthquake in Chile was actually the 8th largest earthquake in history, registering an 8.8 on the Richter scale. If that weren’t enough, the region has been rocked by more than 30 aftershocks stronger than 6.0. The devastation has been immense, yet no one seems to be moved enough to help.

However, PokerStars, the world’s largest online poker site has noticed, and they have been forced to cancel their Latin American Poker Tour event in Chile’s Vina del Mar. The event had been set to take place from March 19th to the 23rd but the site’s location, jut 175 miles from the epicenter of the earthquake made the cancellation a logical move as much of the country is still trying to recover.

Over half a million homes were destroyed and major highways and hospitals are still unusable. Just yesterday, the region felt 3 more aftershocks, the most powerful of which registered a 7.2.

PokerStars has stated that they will reimburse all buy ins and travel expenses for registered players.
