Poker2Nite Not Being Renewed for a 3rd Season

by AintLuck.com Poker Team

Season one started off sluggishly as the hosts struggled to find their feet and comfort levels. Season two was a marked improvement from the first. However, it doesn’t appear that Poker2Nite will get a chance at a 3rd season with news that executives at corporate sponsor UB.com have decided not to renew the show.

Word began to spread like wildfire via Twitter as Poker2Nite co-host Tweeted that

“Cat is out of the bag with @poker2nite. Was fun while it lasted, and whether you loved it or hated it, I’m glad we tried something new, “ and later added “Since @Poker2Nite has not been renewed: Working on a musical number for my Legally Prohibited from Talking Poker on Television tour.”

Needless to say, it would seem that Huff did not agree with and was upset by UB’s decision. When reached for comment by Poker News Daily however, Huff was more diplomatic, perhaps in an attempt to not burn any bridges. He said simply, “UB.com made the decision not to bring the show back.”

Although the show will not be coming back, UB COO, Paul Leggett would not close the door completely. He said,

“No long-term decision has been made on the fate of ‘Poker2Nite.’ We are taking a break from production over the summer to decide whether we will do a Season 3 in the fall or perhaps another poker television show.”

Poker2Nite’s first episodes were met with mixed reviews. Many of co-host Joe Sebok’s fans and supporters were pleased with the product and the fact that poker now had a more mainstream forum, though both hosts were well aware that they needed more polish. They were able to procure a slew of poker personalities to spice up their broadcasts as guests included, Trishelle Cannatella, Annie Duke, Joanna Krupa, Lacey Jones, Prahlad Friedman, Bruce Buffer, Kevin Pollak, actor Samm Levine, Rafe Furst, and Mike Matusow.

This development is probably not good for poker overall in the mainstream and we will monitor reactions from the poker community in the coming weeks.
