He is following in the footsteps of countrymen Alex Kravchenko and Nikolay Evadkov. Both men have cash wins under their belts for their WSOP wins. Demidov is hoping to be just as successful. Second only to Dennis Phillips in chips with 24.4 million, this 27 year old Russian competitor calls himself a semi-professional poker player and his entire bankroll has been built almost completely from competing online. It’s hard to believe he has only been playing poker since 2006. He is one of the “November Nine“, the final 9 players of the 2008 WSOP.

Soft spoken and shy, Ivan Demidov is a Moscow native and entered the WSOP the old-fashioned way. He paid the $10,000 fee to buy into the Main Event. He looks at making it to the final table as the equivalent of winning the lottery in Russia and if he does well and places in the top three in November, he will beat his countrymen’s best record of coming in 4th. He has already shown live tournament promise as exhibited by his previous wins.

Even though this is first WSOP tournament he already has a cash winning to his name. He came in 11th at the $1,000 No Limit Texas Hold’Em Re-Buys, Event 44, winning a tidy little sum of $39,854. Prior to this win, he took 5th place in the 2006 Russian Poker Championship with $3,517 and when he vistied Las Vegas in 2007, he came in 3rd at the Doyle Brunson Five Diamond Wold Poker Classic earning $21,710. Evadkov, incidentally, came in 10th at the Brunson tournament. All of these equal a live cash winning total of $65,081 do far, a number that stands to increase exponentially if he wins in November.
