Poker Bot Users Banned by Full Tilt Poker

by AintLuck.com Poker Team on October 26, 2010

Full Tilt Poker recently shut down the accounts of several poker bot users and confiscated their funds. Full Tilt sent out an email to the poker bot users that said they were in violation of Full Tilt’s terms of service, and poker bots were being banned to improve security. The world’s second biggest online poker site also pledged to return losses to any players affected by the poker bot “cheating.”

At this time, it’s unclear as to how many accounts were shut down because of poker bot use. Full Tilt provided no details in their email either as it read:

For a number of reasons, we are unable to provide additional information regarding this case, including the players involved and the game type where it occurred.

Poker Bot Software from Shanky Technologies

The poker bot software used in the alleged cheating was found to be from Shanky Technologies. This company sells online poker bots for different games such as Texas Hold’em, Omaha, and Seven Card Stud. Shanky Technologies was not happy about Full Tilt Poker’s decision to reprimand the bot users since they have ignored poker bots in the past.

Poker bots are software programs that operate without the assistance of players, and these programs can even multi-table in cash games. The usage of bots has been a gray area throughout the world of online poker, but many rooms have recently taken attempts to ban bots. PokerStars banned a number of Chinese poker bot users after $57,000 was made through bots in sit and go’s.

Full Tilt dealt with another poker bot controversy when they shut down the accounts of Lary Kennedy and Greg Omotoy. Kennedy and Omotoy sued Full Tilt Poker earlier this year in regards to an instance in 2009 where Full Tilt froze the players’ accounts and confiscated over $80,000. The case was eventually dismissed in a California court.
