Newest Member of Brunson 10 Announced

by Omar

The name “Doyle Brunson”, historically, has been synonymous with the game of poker. Over the last several decades, Brunson has built a rock solid reputation as one of the all-time greats as well as a true ambassador of the game. Though perhaps best known and recognized for his 10 World Series of Poker bracelets, Brunson is also the main proprietor of a successful online poker room, Doylesroom.com. For the better part of 2010, Doylesroom has been in the process of putting together of 10 pros to represent the site. The name of this specially selected team of players is the Brunson 10.

Going into this year’s World Series of Poker, Brunson himself nominated 4 players who would be vying for the seventh slot of the stable of players. Those players are David “Doc Sands” Sands, Dan “djk123” Kelly, Faraz “The_Toilet” Jaka, and Michael “martin23” Martin, a veritable group of young up and coming poker professionals who are regarding as some of the best and brightest and who have all enjoyed extensive live and online success.

During the two months of the 2010 WSOP, all four represented themselves well and made strong bids for the coveted spot. After much jockeying for position, Kelly earned an automatic spot with his winning of Event #52, the $25,000 Six-Handed No Limit Hold’em tournament. This win turned the competition into a 3-man race with Doc Sands taking the lead going into the Main Event. Sands cemented his spot with an impressive final tournament, giving him 2,269.10 leaderboard points, dwarfing the totals of his two rivals. When it was all said and done, Sands had powered his way to 5 separate tournament cashes while winning over $88,000. Jaka cashed in 3 events, including 8th in the $10,000 Heads-Up Championship and 31st in the $5,000 No Limit Hold’em Shootout; a good showing but not quite good enough.

To date, 8 of the 10 elusive Brunson 10 spots have been awarded. These players are:

Zachary “CrazyZachary” Clark
Amit “amak316” Makhija
Dani “Ansky” Stern
Chris “Moorman1” Moorman
Alex “AJKHoosier1” Kamberis
Steve “gboro780” Gross
Dan “djk123” Kelly
David “Doc Sands” Sands

Two more spots are up for grabs. Keep checking back in for potential news of the event.
