Latest MiniFTOPS Ends as a Smash Hit, FTOPS XVII

by Omar

As the summer is officially ending today, so has the latest installment of Full Tilt’s MiniFTOPS Series, #XVII. For those of you who don’t follow online poker events very closely, or perhaps you have been vacationing in a very remote location, the MiniFTOPS is the most unique copycat tournament series anywhere. Yes, that contradiction was done on purpose. Basically, Full Tilt’s biggest tournament series’ are called FTOPS and over a two week span, well heeled players can compete in solid tournaments in all poker forms. The MiniFTOPS on the other hand is exactly identical to the associated FTOPS series except the buy-ins are a fraction of the cost and thus are accessible to virtually everyone regardless of bankroll.

That’s right, the MiniFTOPS featured the same 34 events as the regular version. After two weeks of heavy action and traffic on Full Tilt, the series came to a close a couple days ago with the $1 million guaranteed Main Event with a very pocketbook friendly $75 buy-in. Full Tilt was undoubtedly thrilled with the turnout as over 15,000 players participated, creating a swollen prize pool of just under $1.1 million, exceeding the guarantee by 10%. It was the largest event in MiniFTOPS history in terms of participation.

The prestigious title on Main Event winner went to a player named The_Dean221 who must have slept very well with an additional $152,086 in his player account. He agreed to a chop during heads up play with castellmich who did quite well himself with a $125,222 score. In total, the entire main event lasted for a manageable 14 hours.
Rounding out the final table were:

3rd place – poco_kid – $78,799
4th place – dicesare86 – $56,518
5th place – galaktiki – $40,214
6th place – r u KIDDINGG me – $28,802
7th place – Dejw – $20,650
8th place – I Pay Ur Rent – $15,216
9th place – profcrim – $10,760

Other notable wins from the second half of play include “shreddar12” winning just under $80K in event #16, a $109 NL hold em event, and “Madame George” winning the sole 7-game event, event #20 for $8,253. Not too shabby for a $22 investment. Also, “noliesjustlove’ banked $118,152 in event #29, a 6-max no-limit affair with 2,997 entries ponying up $216 each.

With the success they enjoyed, Full Tilt is looking forward to more of the same the next time FTOPS time rolls around.
