Isildur1 Shuns Full Tile, Signs with PokerStars

by Omar

For a little over a year, the mysterious online poker phenom, Isildur1, has been terrorizing opponents at the high stakes nosebleed games on Full Tilt Poker. While capturing the imagination of poker fans around the globe by his involvement in the 10 largest pots in online poker history while keeping his actual identity a well-kept secret, anytime he sits down on the virtual felt, he creates a circus-like atmosphere and his actions and plays draws oohs and aahs all over the poker landscape. Perhaps this is all in keeping with his well-crafted, dark persona that Isildur1 has famously announced something to the effect that he will now be taking his talents to Full Tilt’s biggest rival, PokerStars, the world’s largest online poker site. This move must absolutely be felt as a serious blow to the Full Tilt hierarchy as they either were not willing or able to sign their biggest draw to a pro contract and must now idly watch as he brings his brash, in your face style elsewhere.

In a statement released on the PokerStars website, Isildur1, reumored to be Viktor Blom, said, “I chose to join PokerStars because it’s the biggest site and it will be an exciting challenge. It means a great deal to be playing on a team alongside players such as Daniel Negreanu, Dario Minieri, and Johnny Lodden…“My goals now are to improve my live game for some upcoming events. (I will) continue to focus on Heads-Up No Limit Hold’em, but also try to develop my Pot Limit Omaha game.”

The move is a big boost to PokerStars profile, not that they needed it, but it shows that they are keenly aware of what people want to see and what is going on in their rivals’ worlds. Presently, PokerStars most high profile and biggest spokesperson is Daniel Negreanu and he was thrilled at the news in stating, . “It’s not every day that a player like Isildur1 comes along. If you look up the definition of the term ‘phenom,’ you’ll see a picture of his face! When he is playing, the poker world takes notice. Hate to overuse the poker term ‘sick,’ but Isildur1’s No Limit Hold’em game is just that – sick! Few people step up to the plate against him, but the ones who have universally respect his raw talent.”

Up till now, most players could only dream about matching up against Isildur1 and his take no prisoners approach to the game. However, PokerStars is prepared to make those dreams a reality through a special promotion which sounds a bit like the Durrrr Challenge. Dubbed the Superstar Showdown, at stakes of $50/$100 and above in No Limit Hold em or Pot Limit Omaha, players can write into PokerStars and challenge the Swedish pro to a heads up match which will consist of either 2500 hands or until one player holds all the chips, whichever comes first. The winning player, and this is open to Isildur1 as well, will receive a $10,000 bonus for winning the match. The promotion is actually open to all players on the site, even those that do not currently have the bankroll to match up with him. Much like they do for any big, live tournament that they send qualifiers to, PokerStars will be holdin a series of qualifying events from Deccember 13th through April 3rd where prospective opponents will compete for the opportunity to compete in a final tournament player on February 13th and April 10th where the winners will receive a $15,000 bankroll to use in a heads up match against Isildur1 himself.

All of this must leave a bad taste in the mouths of Full Tilt and their client base. Just as LeBron James fled Cleveland as their fans helplessly watched, so too does Full Tilt with its own superstar.
