Isildur1 and Jungleman Have Their Own Sunday Brawl

by Omar

Forget about PokerStars Sunday Million, Warm-Up or $109 rebut. Forget about Full Tilt Poker‘s Sunday Brawl. Forget about any other big Weekly tournament held on the Internet. Please forget about the Pro Bowl and pretend that ever happened.  For the better part of the past week, poker fans had Sunday, January 31st circled on their calendars even though it meant nothing to their own bottom line.

Yesterday was time for the 3rd installment of the Isildur1 Superstar Showdown on PokerStars and this go around featured 2 of poker’s most recognizable and talked about stars, Viktor Blom and Dan Cates. Blom needs no further introduction. Unless you’ve been hibernating the past 2 years, you know who he is.  This Cates fellow? You may know him by his Full Tilt moniker, Jungleman12, and his owning of Tom “Durrrr” Dwan in the 2nd Durrrr Challenge.

With these two heavyweights settled in, they did not disappoint their fans.  The match-up played out like an intense NBA playoff game with a slew of lead changes in the first half of play as the two warriors three haymaker after haymaker which left railbirds as woozy as each other. Before reaching the halfway point each player had reached, and blown $20k leads as their dual aggressiveness led to numerous all ins and one monster pot after another.

It is believed some spectators needed to be helped off their computer chairs as a direct result of being winded.

Eventually, Cates was able to take down some five figure pots just to cut Blom’s lead to $50k and Blom vanquished Cates for a $52k profit and upping his Showdown record to 2-1.

If the fans had any say, it’s likely they would look to make this match-up a weekly treat.
