Ilari “Ziigmund” Sahamies the Rapper

by Jeremy

Ilari “Ziigmund” Sahamies has become one of the most popular international online poker pros due to his excessive trash talking, and at one time, extremely successful career. One additional thing that Sahamies is known for is his love of hip hop, which even saw him land in a Finnish rap video called Pojat On Poikii.

It appears as if Sahamies isn’t quite done with the hip hop world yet since he’s appeared in a second video lately. The video is called “A Unique,” and it features Ziigmund, along with several other Finnish celebrities like hockey coach Pasi Nurminen and former Miss Finland Viivi Pumped. Of course, this is a poker site, so the big news is Sahamies’ appearance in the video, and you can catch him a little after the 2-minute mark.

Perhaps Ziigmund might consider a new career in the hip hop field since he’s currently struggling pretty badly in online poker. After reaching an apex of $7 million in winnings in November, 2009, Sahamies has tumbled over the past two years, and now sits at $838k in career winnings. His biggest losses occurred from September, 2010 to November, 2010 after he lost over $3 million (stats courtesy of HighStakesDB)

Since the massive losses, Ziigmund’s bankroll demise has been more gradual, but it keeps occurring nonetheless. Assuming he keeps losing, you have to wonder how much Ziigmund will continue to play online poker. Sahamies could always go back to the live tournament scene, where he has over $447k in career winnings, and a runner-up finish in the Helsinki Freezeout 2009. But perhaps this type of career isn’t appealing to somebody who was once over $7 million in online cash game winnings.
