Durrrr Drops a Million to Hansen Heads Up

If you are a poker player, a professional or an amateur, it doesn’t matter who you are, you will inevitably experience downswings and book the occasional disastrous losing session.  It is highly unlikely however that you have or will ever experience what online pro Tom “Durrrr” Dwan is going through this year over on Full Tilt Poker.  After falling under tremendously the first quarter of 2009, Durrrr had been making a valiant comeback towards profitably.  However, over the weekend, he experienced a major hiccup playing heads up $500/$1000 Pot Limit Omaha against Gus Hansen.  These two play against each other pretty much daily and are now strangers to the wild swings of Pot Limit Omaha.

However, what happened during their match is nothing short of extraordinary.  At the conclusion of their session, Hansen had taken Durrrr for a cool million bucks.  Yes, $1 Million out of Durrrr’s account and into Hansen’s.  The monumental loss means that on the year, Durrrr is now down approximately $3 Million.  This is a staggering amount to say the least but Durrrr just keeps on trucking, playing the nosebleeds for the remainder of the weekend.  Interestingly, Durrrr managed to win the two largest pots of the matchup.  The largest pot which was worth over $208k had both players raise and reraise preflop until they were all in and Hansen’s pocket aces getting outdrawn by Dwan’s suited ace.  That pot did little to prevent the ugly outcome for Durrrr however and leaves railbirds wondering, just how much of this can one bankroll take.
