Blom Leads the Way in EPT Madrid

Apparently online poker greatness can carry over into the live game. Of course this comes as no surprise since poker is history is full of players who have been able to win both online and live. However, the old school poker players are sometimes quick to draw the distinction between themselves and their younger counterparts. The main differences they cite are being able to withstand the different pressures involved when one is seated inches away from an adversary, as opposed to looking at a digital avatar and screen-name.

However, late last week, Viktor “Isildur1″Blom, perhaps the single most recognizable name in the online poker world showed that he is quite capable of holding his own against real life opponents as he took a stranglehold of the chip lead at the EPT Grand Final High Roller event running in Madrid, Spain.

The young Swedish star remains extremely media shy and rarely gives interviews of any type even though he is now the most famous player over on PokerStars, who shrewdly snatched him away from Full Tilt in January.

This EPT event attracted 58 of the biggest international poker stars in the world and will b handing out a €1,435,500 prizepool with €525,000 reserved for first place.

Blom holds the most chips with the field down to 36 players, an all str lineup that still includes top players such as Bertrand “ElkY” Grospellier, Johnny Lodden, Humberto Brenes, Vanessa Rousso.

Should Blom manage to avoid any meltdowns and his the title, he would be bringing some good news to the embattled online poker industry which has not had much to cheer about over the past month. A potential victory would also be the first of his career.
