2009 Aussie MillionsThe Australian Poker Championship (the Aussie Millions) is held each January at the Crown Casino in Melbourne, Australia. It is one of the largest land based poker tournaments in Australia as well as the world, with a total of 16 different poker tournaments and a guaranteed first prize of $2 Million AUD. The largest event of the Aussie Millions is the $10,500 No Limit Hold’em event.

The very first Aussie Millions was held in 1998 with a $1,000 buy-in and 74 participants in the NL Hold’em event. Since the inception, the Australian Championship has grown to 780 entrants in 2008 and expects to host well over 800 players for the 2009 Aussie Millions Main Event. The Aussie Millions is currently the 6th largest poker tournament worldwide.

Online Qualifiers and Satellites Aussie Millions 2009

As of October 2008, we have not received any information from any of our participating poker rooms regarding satellites to the 2009 Aussie Millions. We do know that many of the poker rooms will be offering both qualifiers and satellites to the Aussie Millions, so please bookmark this page and we will keep you posted when the online poker rooms let us know. So far, this is who is offering satellites..

Cake Poker Satellites

Cake has Aussie Millions satellites running from October through December of 2008. Every Sunday night at 8pm EST Cake has an Aussie Millions Final where 1 Aussie Millions package will be awarded for every $16K in the prize pool. You can play in daily R&A Satellites to qualify for the weekly final.

Famous Poker Pros Competing at the Aussie Millions

Over the years, many famous poker pros have competed in the Australian championship, solidifying this tournament as one of the major poker events on the professional poker tour. Some notable pros include: Gus Hansen, Joe Hachem, Phil Ivey, John Juanda, Daniel Negreanu, Barry Greenstein, Kathy Leibert, Scott Fischman, Chip Jett, David Williams, Antonio Esfandiari, Mike Sexton, Tony G, Jesse Jones, Clonnie Gowan, Kenna James, and Erik Seidel.

The Aussie Millions 2008 champion was Alexander Kostritsyn, a 21 year old Russian poker player who defeated one of the best NL Hold’em tournament players in history, Erik Seidel. The win for Alexander Kostritsyn earned him $1.65 Million AUS, the largest payout awarded in a live poker tournament in the southern hemisphere.

2009 Aussie Millions Schedule

The 16 poker tournaments offered at this year’s Aussie Millions include: H.O.R.S.E., Omaha Hi Lo, Pot Limit Omaha, Limit Hold’em and of course the No Limit Texas Hold’em Main Event. The Main Event of the 2009 Millions will be televised on Fox Sports Net.
