Andrew Robl and JC Alvarado to fight

by Jeremy Olson

By trade, Andrew Robl and JC Alvarado are poker players, and two of the world’s best at that. However, they also have a deep interest in the world of mixed martial arts and plan on fighting each other.

Robl recently discussed the upcoming fight after taking a break from his training at One Kick Nick’s gym in Las Vegas. “Recently, six months ago, I started to train again,” he said. “And just randomly, some MMA site called Middle Easy, it’s like the number one MMA site, wrote a blog post about how I was going to fight Sorel (Mizzi).

“JC Alvarado saw that and he tweeted at me and we started talking, and he asked me if I still wanted to fight and I told him like ‘Yea, you want to fight me.’ And we went from there.”

Robl continued by saying that it’s going to be MMA-unified rules, but with no elbows or knees to the head. The rounds will last anywhere from three to five minutes, depending upon what the fighters decide.

It’s difficult to predict who’ll win this fight because neither poker player has fought an official match. However, as Robl explained in the video, he has jiu-jitsu training and learned plenty of skills while preparing to face Mizzi - a fight which never happened.

As for Alvarado, little is known about his MMA skills. But like Robl said, JC is probably in the gym six times a week getting ready for the bout. Whatever the case may be, we can only hope for a better fight than the one between Lex Veldhuis and Bertrand Grospellier, which ended up being an ugly, one-sided knockout.
