by AintLuck.com Poker Team

The World Series of Golf was played last week in Las Vegas, hosted by online poker room, Full Tilt Poker. The first place prize went to Andrew “AJ” Johnson a 36 year old Michigan car salesman, who swung home with $250,000 beating out venerable poker pros, Allen Cunningham, Erick Lindgren and Dee Tiller. Johnson put the pressure on the last hole by shooting his tee shot on a 163 yard Par 3, just a few yards from the pin.

The tournament will be broadcast on CBS, scheduled for June 28th and 29th, 2008.

What is the World Series of Golf?

The event combines the skill and athletic (or nonathletic) ability of golf with the betting savvy of poker in an innovative format similar to reality TV programs. 100+ amateur golfers including poker pros, and celebrities compete for the $250,000 grand prize in Las Vegas at the Mirage Hotel and Casino.

Premise of the World Series of Golf

Golfers are divided into groups and each player competes against the other players in their group. Just as in poker, players must post an Ante before playing a hole, and each and every shot afterwards is played just like poker. Golfers can raise, call, check or fold with each subsequent shot, and the winner of the hole takes the pot. Once a golfer looses all of their chips, they are out of the game until only one player remains. The winner of each group advances on to subsequent rounds making for a dramatic and exciting competition.

As you can see, the object of the game is not to shoot the lowest golf score, but by eliminating your opponents by taking all of their chips.
