Poker Prodigy Alexa Fisher is 8 Years Old

by Jeremy

It seems as if poker prodigy Alexa Fisher is in the news once again after the UK’s Daily Mail did a story on her. What makes Fisher so special is that she’s just 8 years old, and can reportedly play 50 poker variations. Apparently, Fisher’s father started teaching her the basics at age 3 so that she could learn important math skills.

Since dedicating her life to learning poker, Fisher has become immersed in the world, and even begged to go to the WSOP rather than Disneyland. While at the WSOP, she got autographs from several famous poker players including Greg Raymer, who wrote “see you in 2024″ (when she’ll be 21).

Alexa Fisher certainly isn’t short on confidence either because when she was interviewed last year, she told reporters, “I know how to shuffle and deal the cards, raise, check, fold, and bluff. I also know how to play 2-7 Lowball, H.O.R.S.E. and Badugi.” She finished by adding, “I can now play any poker game with the best poker players in the world. With me being a girl, when I am a professional poker player I hope I can inspire other girls and women to play poker too.”

Perhaps she gets the confidence from her father, who recently told the Daily Mail, “I know Alexa could play poker with the best players in the world and definitely hold her own. I also know she would be more than comfortable playing the professionals at the large buy-in events that many top name players are known for.”

We’ve been hearing about this girl for the past couple of years now, and it will be interesting to see if she remains as adamant about poker when she gets older. After all, there’s a long way to go from now until the days when she actually starts playing pro poker.
